Week 3: Reflection

 1. What is the song all about? What are the main parts/messages of the song that give the story? Explain and give supporting statements found in the lyrics/message.

- Lyrically, the song talks about the end of Adele's relationship with her long-time lover. With the first sentence of the lyrics “I heard that you're settled down. That you found a girl and you're married now ”, this tells about the woman left by her ex-boyfriend who is now getting married. She has to see him for herself, to finally convince herself that he ain't coming back to her. And she realizes at last that she can't go on hanging onto that hope. That she has to make herself move on, but not in bitterness. Then, the line "Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you", tells how Adele still cares for her ex-boyfriend and she wishes him all the best, knowing that what he's settled for is something different from what they had. This song wants to tell us that every relationship has two faces. One is the happiness of being loved and the other side is the pain and suffering caused by the broken relationship. But, whenever it is like that, we must keep in mind that we can stand by our foot and walk away to find another.

2. Cite a line or lines in the song that touched or impacted you the most and explain why.

- The line "That you found a girl and you're married now' impacted me the most.  A lot of times relationships end without any definite closure for one or both people. Like many people, the woman in this story was left still "in love" with her ex. Now she has to live a life filled not with regret or anger, but with these feelings that won't go away. It's not that she really wants to be with this person forever, she understands that he's moved on. It really brings about a disappointing fact that many relationships in our culture end without the continuation of a friendship. Two people who were once quite intimate with each other all of a sudden don't speak anymore, and that leaves a lot of confusion and wondering what happened. It can even lead to false assumptions, and a continuation of love from one party to another because each person doesn't really know what happened.
