Week 4: Reflection

 1. What is the song all about? Give support to your answers by citing specific lines/lyrics from the song.

- The song "Ako Muna" by Yeng Constantino talks about self-love; its importance, benefits, and how to deal with it. The line "Pag-ibig Muna, para sa akin", means giving herself unconditional respect, appreciation, and evaluation of being great first. It doesn't mean that she prevents herself from caring about others; it simply means that it is the time to give herself the same kindness that she gives to others. It’s also a reminder that we deserve to meet all our personal needs while considering ourselves as worthy, valuable, and deserving of happiness. As the song ends with the line "Kailangan ko lang, Ako Muna", it shows that all she needs is herself to fix her mind, body, and soul. In all, it tackles the importance to love yourself, because of the simple truth that you cannot take care of others until you take care and love of yourself first.

2. Share your insights, realizations, and learnings on the discussion forum after reflecting on this song.

- Maybe I can say that I grew up without any models for self-love or anyone who talked to you about the importance of being good to yourself. I am likely to be highly self-critical and fell into people-pleasing and perfectionism. I neglected my own needs and feelings because I don't value myself, and I made decisions that aren't in my own best interest. Through the help of this lesson and by the influence of others, now I know the importance of loving myself first. Self-love is necessary to live a healthy lifestyle and a fundamental value that can generate inner peace and positivity. It is the foundation that allows us to be assertive, set boundaries and create healthy relationships with others, practice self-care, pursue our interests and goals, and feel proud of who we are. However, loving ourselves doesn't mean that we have to change everything about our life. It is just a try to treat ourselves a little better than we did yesterday. When we fully love ourselves, this gives us the opportunity to move through the world with a deeper compassion for others.
